The Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) decided to overhaul it’s industry-standard advice on delivering collision prevention, last reviewed in 1990. The guidelines that followed were well-received, winning a Prince Michael Road Safety Award in 2008, and contained a wealth of useful advice and case studies.  GreenSafe Ltd provided the Managing Editor for the project. This project also gave birth to UK-MoRSE.

John Smart, Director of Professional & Business Development at CIHT, said: “Having someone from GreenSafe on board as a Managing Editor for one of our publication projects was a real asset.  It enabled us to get past a hitch in the project, turn things around and produce a good quality, highly readable end product that we are very pleased with.”

Project 1: CIHT CPR Guidelines & UK-MoRSE

West Midlands Road Safety Partnership knew their current database system wasn’t up to the job for 2010 and beyond, so they turned to GreenSafe Ltd to review the current system, evaluate the best of what’s out there, forecast future needs and write a report pointing the way toward a system that will facilitate road safety work in the next decade under a new national strategy.

Project 2: SPECTRUM Collision Database Review

Birmingham City Council needed to be sure their Red Routes projects were not improving journey time reliability and public transport at the cost of increased casualties.  GreenSafe Ltd was asked to examine one particular route causing concern. Our review highlighted things that were working and things that weren’t, as well as providing a robust statistical analysis to give BCC confidence going forward with other projects.

Project 3: Safety Review of Red Route in Birmingham

When the Highways Agency needed someone to target, coordinate and evaluate road safety initiatives in the East Midlands, they turned to GreenSafe Ltd to provide someone with the necessary experience for such a specialist role. GreenSafe Ltd was able to supply someone with a sound knowledge of road safety practice across engineering, enforcement and ETP, as well as a relationship builder with regional and local road safety partnerships.

Project 4: HA Regional Road Safety Coordinator

The launch of the DfT’s Strategic Framework for Road Safety (SF4RS) has met with mixed responses from the road safety industry. Whatever our feelings the SF4RS needs to be taken into account when setting out local strategies and activities in the spirit of the Government’s ideas on Localism.  Centro commissioned GreenSafe Limited to help the West Midlands Road Safety Partnership to take stock in the light of the SF4RS and the cuts in staff and funding of the last 12 months and decide how to proceed in a difficult climate.
